Due to recent advances in technology, optical fibers have opened their ways into the sensing industry. Various sectors are the major targets for optical fiber sensors capable of measuring mechanical parameters such as pressure, stress, strain, temperature, and others. Opto-mechanical fiber optic sensors provide unique advantages unbeatable by other sensing systems. These advantages, to name a few, are immunity to electromagnetic interference, high fidelity and signal to noise ratio, low-loss remote sensing, and small size. These sensors already have proven track record of success in industry The first part of the book brings the readers all needed background information on the theoretical aspects of FOS as well as fabrication and packaging methods.
